Turner Z. Cason papers, 1932-1957.

This is a collection of Dr. T.Z. Cason's papers, chiefly correspondence, related to the development of short courses for physicians in Florida, the creation of the Department of Medicine through the Dean of the UF Graduate School, and creation of the College of Medicine at UF. It also includes various news clippings. Most correspondence discusses administration and planning of short courses. Some material reports on attendance at courses, with seperate entries for African American and white physicians. Also correspondence concerning first integrated short course in Jacksonville in 1940, correspondence to hotel presidents, police and with Florida A&M University on issues of crediting African American Physicians who attended is included.

Dr. T.Z. Cason was a Florida physician who graduated from UF in 1908. In 1932, he began running graduate short courses in Florida and was instrumental in creating the first Department of Medicine in the UF Graduate School, and later the College of Medicine.
